Halloween Campaign, Gwent Police
BRIEF
My first introduction to a live real world brief. Gwent police pitched a campaign for tender. We were tasked with creating a poster series which would deterred people from knocking on people’s doors during the busy halloween season. Gwent police are spread thin during this holiday, and the less calls they have the better they can manage their resources.
SOLUTION
Using real world research, I discovered that a lot of people were scared of the costumes on Halloween, not busy they were necessarily ‘terrifying’ but because they didn’t know who was behind the mask. Taking this concept, I wanted to show the two angles. The ‘cute’ kids costumes in the doorway casting a haunting shadow, representing both views of what people see on Halloween.
“Students pitched their ideas to Gwent Police which resulted in Kenneth Rees’s work being selected as overall outcome winner, meaning his work will be used across Gwent over Halloween.”
“Ryan Preece, Course Leader for Graphic Communication: Kenneth worked exceptionally hard on this client facing project. The aim of the design thinking in practice module is to encourage students to understand the process of design thinking and put their creative ideas into practice with direct contact with an industry professional. It’s exciting to see first year students taking on real world design challenges and gaining insights into design practice at such an early stage in the course.”
