BRIEF
In July 2016, Mali and Trystan's lives were forever altered when their father, Dan, tragically took his own life. In honor of his memory, the DPJ Foundation was established with the mission to provide support to individuals within the agricultural community grappling with mental health challenges.
Following the devastating loss of their father, Mali and Trystan found themselves in a profoundly isolating situation. They felt alone in their experience, unable to connect with anyone who had endured a similar ordeal. Making sense of what had happened and coming to terms with their grief proved to be an arduous journey. The DPJ Foundation wanted to create resources which would help others through bereavement.
SOLUTION
The Dan-Y-Bont book series, through the stories of Twm, Wil and Beti aim to offer comfort and guidance to other children, who have suddenly lost a loved one. The stories shed light on the diverse ways people cope with loss and grief and help these children find a path forward. Above all, the stories remind people to always “Share the load”.
Our goal was to illustrate picturesque farming scenery from Wales which farmers could relate to. The books have been created for children in a delicate, comforting tone whilst not shying away from the core topic. The resources enables families to “start a conversation” facing the situation head on so the reader can understand, heal and help others.
The DPJ book series has been distributed across schools in Wales (in both English and Welsh) to aid other families through bereavement.
